OUR FOUNDER
George
S. Daugharty is a Certified Public Accountant specializing in income
and estate tax planning for closely held, middle-market businesses and
high net worth individuals. He is a frequent speaker to business groups
and estate planners on methods of minimizing and avoiding income and
estate tax. He has published in Current Accounts, a
newsletter for Certified Public Accountants and in National Mortgage Professional Magazine, a publication for the mortgage industry. He is an
expert in the area of real estate taxation and a frequent speaker on
Sec. 1031 Exchanges.
Prior to moving to Virginia, he founded and managed his own public accounting firm in Atlanta, Daugharty & Company, LLC, which served a large number of real estate developers and investors. In 2005, Mr. Daugharty merged his Firm with two other Atlanta tax practices handing over day-to-day management to another partner and allowing him to relocate his family to their new home in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.
Mr.
Daugharty earned a Masters in Tax from The Graduate School of Business
at the University of Texas-Austin in 1992. He obtained his
accounting degree from Valdosta State University in 1990.
After completing graduate school he returned to Georgia where he
practiced with the international accounting firm of Price Waterhouse,
LLP and worked on a variety of the firm’s larger, publicly held clients.
Mr. Daugharty is a longtime Rotarian. He has been active also in
the Affordable Housing Association of CPAs and the Virginia
Society of CPAs. He serves on the Planning Commission
for the Town of New Market, is a past president of the Woodstock Rotary Club. He has recently served
as an assistant coach for the New Market/Mt. Jackson 12-year-old
baseball team and is an occasional Sunday school teacher.
He and his wife, Rebecca, are the proud parents of three beautiful children: Amy, Catherine, and George, Jr. They are active members of the Wakeman’s Grove Church of the Brethren.
